THE GOPHER HOLE

PANEL 1
Visual:
Ace and Jack stand in a canyon of beige server cabinets. Jack follows a
heavy cable across the floor. A large sign reads NITETIME.NET FILE SERVER.
Dialogue:
JACK: This is the file server.
ACE: From the inside.

PANEL 2
Visual:
Jack opens a filing drawer built directly into a rack of blinking drives.
Ace watches the hardware respond.
Dialogue:
JACK: Cabinets are directories.
ACE: And the files are files.

PANEL 3
Visual:
A network cable enters a round, green-lit opening beneath a brass GOPHER
sign. A carved gopher holding a plug sits beside the entrance.
Dialogue:
ACE: What's down there?
JACK: Older Internet.

PANEL 4
Visual:
Ace and Jack stoop through a low tunnel made from roots, cables, index
cards, and old terminals. Numbered signs form a simple menu.
Dialogue:
ACE: Does it have a map?
JACK: It has a menu.

PANEL 5
Visual:
They reach a warm underground computer room. A green CRT reads NITETIME
GOPHER and lists COMICS, RADIO, COMMODORE, and FILES.
Dialogue:
ACE: I like it down here.
JACK: Low bandwidth. High ceilings.

PANEL 6
Visual:
Jack searches a mechanical card catalog labeled COMICS. A CRT reads
SEARCHING COMICS... as cards rapidly pass through the machine.
Dialogue:
ACE: Look for us.
JACK: Already did.
Sound effect:
CLACK CLACK CLACK

PANEL 7
Visual:
An empty results drawer sits under a green CRT that reads NO ACE-AND-JACK.
Dialogue:
ACE: We're not on Gopher.
JACK: Not yet.

PANEL 8
Visual:
Ace and Jack walk away through the Gopher room. Behind them, an unnoticed
terminal gains a blank fifth menu item. An INDEXING lamp glows while a
label machine produces a strip reading ACE-AND-JACK?. The carved gopher
mascot watches beside the machine.
Dialogue:
ACE: Think we're going to show up?
JACK: You said 'going to.' That's encouraging.
