STORY NOTES =========== Premise ------- Ace and Jack confirm that the impossible archive is the NITETIME.NET file server viewed from within. A physical network cable leads to the Gopher server, where they search for their own series and discover it is absent. An indexing machine begins preparing something after they leave. Continuity ---------- This issue immediately follows ISSUE-001. Ace and Jack retain the appearance, clothing, and personalities established there. They no longer debate whether the archive is a filesystem; their new question is how far its services extend and whether those services will record them. Important visual details ------------------------ Gopher is represented as a warm underground reading room rather than a neon digital world. Menu numbers become trail markers. Search results come from a mechanical card catalog. A carved gopher with a network plug acts as a quiet mascot, not a speaking character. Easter eggs ----------- The Gopher menu includes COMICS, RADIO, COMMODORE, and FILES. A small mug in the reading room is marked .net. The final menu has room for a fifth entry. Possible future hooks --------------------- Ace and Jack may eventually appear on Gopher, but this issue does not confirm when, how, or who controls the indexing process. Other archive services may also have physical forms and different ideas about what belongs in them.
