disk hardware and function as directories.

The cable ends at a round doorway marked GOPHER. Beyond it is a burrow-like
old-Internet environment built from tangled telephone wire, roots, index
cards, numbered menu signs, green CRTs, wooden catalogs, and mechanical
search equipment. A friendly carved gopher mascot holds a network plug.

Ace and Jack search a simple NITETIME GOPHER menu for their own comic. The
result screen says NO ACE-AND-JACK, leaving Ace concerned and Jack cautiously
optimistic. In the wide final panel they walk away without noticing that an
INDEXING light has turned on. A blank fifth menu line appears, and a machine
feeds out a paper label reading ACE-AND-JACK?. The caption says REQUEST
PENDING, suggesting that their arrival on Gopher may already be underway.
